Sydney's BEST Sunrise Walks

Writer's picture: Coach KimmiCoach Kimmi

Sydney's coastline boasts some fantastic walking paths, surrounded by nature, wildlife, and breathtaking ocean views. Im personally from Sydney and I spent most my teen years finding the perfect lookout, sunrise, sunset or daydreaming spot. Choosing the right walk can be a bit tricky considering time, intensity, and location. That's why I've put together a list of my favourite Sydney walks:

1. Spit Bridge to Manly This scenic 10km trail offers stunning harbour views, hidden beaches, and perfect picnic spots. Plan for 3 to 5 hours, pack some snacks, and consider splitting the walk into parts on different days for a more relaxed experience. Take a whole day if you want to enjoy the entire journey without rushing.

2. Brighton Le Sands to Sans Souci Fancy a beach walk? Absolutely! This is actually one of my usual go to walks since most the ladies I train are local to this beach. We love finishing of our sessions with a protein shake and a little warm down walk/chit-chat! All through covid we were working out in the sand so I have some great memories here (even though it was lockdown!) This relaxed stroll is easy to complete, whether on the sand or the footpath. It's perfect for moms with prams, featuring play areas, exercise stations, and dog-friendly paths. Plus, there are plenty of cafes along the way (SoBe Cafe & Cafe Bella Dee are my favourites!) You decide when to turn around, making it a flexible and enjoyable walk.

3. ANZAC Bridge to Pyrmont Bridge For a short, scenic walk, lace up your shoes and head out! Cross the ANZAC Bridge, explore the fish markets, and enjoy a delightful lunch by the bay. Continue through Darling Harbour and across Pyrmont Bridge, completing the 4km journey in under an hour. You'll get a great view of Cockle Bay while being in the heart of the city – a fantastic way to spend the day!

4. Middle Head Experience the beauty of Sydney Harbour National Park at Middle Head. Explore the Don Goodsir track to the 1801 forts, check out tunnels, gun pits, and war-ridden tiger cages. Wrap up the day with a sunbake and picnic at Cobblers Beach.

5. Bondi to Coogee Embark on the Bondi to Coogee walk, a relatively easy 6km journey that won't take more than three hours. Enjoy stunning beaches like Bronte, Clovelly, and Gordons Bay – perfect for a refreshing dip. Year-round, this walk offers spectacular views, including the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition later in the year.

6. Balls Head Reserve For the most relaxed yet stunning walk, head to Balls Head Reserve. Just below the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, this leisurely stroll takes you through private parks and flourishing flora and fauna. Take a break and have a picnic on the rocks for the best views of Sydney's CBD.

7. Centennial Park If you prefer a designated track, check out Centennial Park, about 10 minutes from the city. This 4km stroll, like Brighton Le Sands to Sans Souci, is ideal for moms with strollers and kids wanting a park to play in. Dog lovers are welcome too, but keep those furry friends on a leash in specific zones. It's a picturesque picnic spot, especially when the sun is shining bright!

Happy walking!
